Combating Climate Change at a Local Level

Redbridge to host Copenhagen style Climate Change Conference for local community.

Sonia Klein (PPC Ilford North), Sir Robin Wales (Mayor of Newham), Jean Lambert MEP and Murad Quereshi, (London Assembly Member) will meet with the public to investigate the implications of Copenhagen at a local level.

On Sunday, 31st January, 10 – 4pm, Sonia Klein the PPC for Ilford North, will host a discussion event at the Redbridge Institute entitled ‘Climate Change: Can we make a difference at the local level?’

Sunday’s event will give the local community of Redbridge an opportunity to engage with ideas about how residents, schools and small businesses can work together to take advantage of the economic opportunities available from low carbon industries. Using examples of local communities’ capitalising on green issues, the discussion will focus on developing and sustaining the following four Green issues:

• Energy
• Electric Vehicles
• Green Education
• Green Economy for local businesses

Sonia Klein, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Ilford North, says:

“The conference is not simply a place to talk about plans but to begin the process of positive change. Whilst change seems daunting at a global level, we are confident that the small changes we make at the local level will have a global impact. Being green is more than an ideology; it will form the basis of our future economy, we must prepare our communities to take advantage of these opportunities.”

Throughout the day, discussions on the key Green areas will be complemented with smaller breakout discussion as ideas are fine tuned into action plans for locals to begin implementing.
